Varsha Bharath's Bad Girl, starring Anjali Sivaraman, will premiere on JioHotstar on November 4, nearly two months after its theatrical release.

Written and directed by Varsha Bharath, the coming-of-age drama has the backing of filmmakers Vetrimaaran and Anurag Kashyap, the latter in the capacity of presenter.

Prior to its theatrical release, the film met a snag when the teaser caused an uproar among certain sections that found the film offensive since it deals with sexual repression and has a Brahmin girl as its protagonist. Following a petition filed by two individuals, the Madras High Court issued an order to remove the promotions. However, the film was later cleared with a U/A certificate and released on September 5.

Aside from Anjali Sivaraman, Bad Girl features Shanthi Priya, Hridhu Haroon, TeeJay Arunasalam, Sashank Bommireddipalli, and Saranya Ravichandran.
Varsha, who previously worked as an assistant director to Vetrimaaran, aimed to make a relatable film with genuine emotions.

The film has had an eventful festival run. It was officially selected and screened at the Shanghai International Film Festival, the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, among others.

It fetched accolades such as the NETPAC Award for Best Asian Film at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR); the Young Jury Award for Best Feature Film at the 40th Cinema Jove - Valencia International Film Festival (Spain); Jury Mention for Music for Amit Trivedi at Cinema Jove, and Student Choice Award at the Indian Film Festival of Toulouse (France).
